Continous improvement through Data Governance

Our client is a global leader in the manufacturing and services industry.

After costly failed attempts to solve data issues within the enterprise, Integris was brought on to create a specific solution that would meet the company’s goals of achieving proper data governance, accelerating data maturity, and creating business continuity. The solution Integris developed was based on conversations held with the CIO and stakeholders, and aimed to create interest and dialogue from other groups as well as showcase tangible metrics and results. Within the first 45 days of project kickoff, there was significant involvement from various stakeholders and positive feedback regarding the understandable and widely applicable nature of the specific solution provided.

The Problem

Off the Shelf

Given the enterprise nature of this organization, there are several different business and IT groups spanning across multiple verticals. From a data perspective, they have been on a journey that is focused not only on accelerating data maturity, but also on creating business continuity and proper governance of their data. When they approached Integris Group, they were seeking a partner who could understand their level of governance maturity and assist with achieving end state results specific to business goals and adoption. In a previous attempt to solve this data governance issue, they had spent a large sum of money to no avail, resulting in no adoption or value and creating a lot of frustration. Much of the previous attempted solution was, in their words, “very cookie cutter” and high level. They needed a tailored, specific solution and framework with a bottom-up approach that could be adopted and seen as valuable with multiple stakeholders.

Our Proposal

Precision Aproach

Integris chose to take on a consultative approach with this effort. Through numerous conversations with the CIO and key stakeholders, we were able to understand not only what success would look like, but why things had failed during previous attempts. During these discussions, we recognized that this solution would have to be very specific instead of a “one size fits all” data governance approach. This solution would have to yield business and IT adoption as well as be measurable based on valuable feedback. Through our data practice, we identified 2-3 key use cases and areas of focus, taking a very prescriptive approach to build out a specific framework with our SME. The goal here was to not only create interest and dialogue from other groups but tangible metrics and results.

The Result

Increased Stakeholder Involvement

Within the first 45 days of project kickoff,  there was a significant increase in involvement from stakeholders. In fact, the framework our team developed is now being socialized across the entire enterprise with an end-state goal that can be taken over internally.
